Apartment Sneak Peek

The official move into the new apartment may have been over a month ago, but the truth is the place is still not 100% done. It's a combination of of weeks and weeks of bad weather, scheduling issues (Ikea is a bit of a hike, and the normal cars aren't big enough for things like a couch to fit), school and work getting in the way, and sheer volume of work. But now things are coming together.

Painting is a sort of a no go in this rental, so instead the plan is to cover the walls as much as possible to distract from the awful (somewhat dirty...) builders beige that covers everything. I already filled one wall space with two large bookcases full of books (all mine, Mr Bear hasn't even brought his own collection of literature over yet) and started hanging some art.

I am lucky that as an art student, I had already amassed a tiny collection of art to display. The gallery wall so far is all work form various printmaking classes I have been in, either my own work (the serpents and flowers with teeth) or things I got in art trades in class. The moth piece was actually something one of my professors made, and it has gorgeous detail and texture in real life. The frames have all been cheap little things from Ikea and Walmart and the like, which are plenty functional for now and very inexpensive.

I am hoping that by the end of the weekend a lot more decorating will be done and by the end of Spring Break the apartment might even be finished and all put right finally. The idea is to have a modern, eclectic place filled with art, good books and other interesting things.
