Dream Apartment Planning

In addition to wedding excitement comes excitement for another big change, moving! My fiance and I both still live at home with family, so this will be both of our first times on our own. That means getting to buy our own furniture and decorate how we like. Not having kids or dogs also means a bit more freedom with decorations since we can go for things like white carpets.

I was very drawn to space themed items for decorating. Mike and I both like science fiction, so it seemed an appropriate and grown up way to add that interest to our home. I also like the bold use of black and white.

I am also in love with the idea of filling my home with amazing texture. These pieces are soft and dreamy and cozy and look like they would be perfect for laying around on, reading a book or playing videogames.

Getting Engaged

Getting engaged is usually a big, romantic occasion, where a guy gets down on one knee and pulls a fancy ring out of a box, or a girl gets a waiter to drop a shiny little something in her partners champagne, right? Well, not so much for my partner and I.

We didn't do any of that. no champagne, no ring, and certainly no surprise. We actually just talked things over and then greed getting married was a good idea. We also agreed neither of us was keen on on a diamond ring. It would have cost more than either of us was comfortable with, and honestly, I am not a diamonds and sparkles kinda girl. Plus, I wasn't so sure I was cool with the idea of just getting  big present for myself, when we BOTH wanted to get married.

Instead, we went with something we could both enjoy. A new tattoo! The design was lifted from the awesome sci fi television series Battlestar Galactica. In the show, two characters (Starbuck and Anders) get married and get these tattoos to show their union. As big fans of the show, sci fi in general, and tattoos, this was much more our style. Plus, we ended up only paying 450 for both, including tip, so it was a lot more affordable than most rings we had looked at.

Plus, now I can feel extra awesome when I watch Battlestar. Anyone else have an offbeat engagement story?
